I want a do-over!

Good morning!  Tick tock - getting closer to Christmas...  I hope you all are ready sit back and enjoy the holiday - I am!
I don't know if you saw my post a week ago for Inspiration Monday but I had just bought this pretty, soft pink sweater and paired it with some gray slacks and was not pleased with the look.  If you missed the post, here is what the outfit looked like...

I wanted to see if I could find a better look so I paired the same sweater with a pair of straight leg, brown slacks...

I think the problem is that the sweater is actually too big for me.  This look (to me) is only slightly better than the first...

So just when I get to thinking that this sweater is going to wind up hanging in my closet and never get worn, I decided to use it as a layering piece.  Since it is a sweater, I had to be careful not to add extra bulk.  Fortunately, it's a fairly light sweater as is the cardigan I paired it with.  I tossed on the belt and will feel much more comfortable wearing it this way.  Less frumpy!

I see things that I like all the time but they don't always look good on me once I get them home so sometimes it can be a challenge to work it into the right look - for me.

Do you have any items that you have difficulty styling???

  2. Styling is deceptively hard. We can tell when something looks right, but getting there is often a struggle. Even with nice clothes.

I agree with you about these items. You found a good use for the sweater under the belt and cardi, which add structure the prior efforts lacked.

Because of my tallness and cylindrical shape, I often have trouble create curves and proportions. I was especially flummoxed recently by a midi-skirt, which bothered me because the skirt itself was so beautiful. Sometimes we need a lot of experimenting -- and help from friends -- to figure out how to make an item work.

  3. Oh I have bunches of them. My problem is that I see myself in my brain as a size 8 and consequently the size 18 I am in real life doesn't match up well.
I do love belting a top and wearing a jacket or sweater over it. For me, it gives the illusion of a smaller waist.
I think you found the perfect way to style the sweater. It looks really good on you. The color of the cardi is so beautiful on you.
